MY APPROACH

I use a client centered approach and create a plan for therapy based on each individual’s strengths, needs and overall wellness. I believe that a collaborative process works best in order to best support people in their journey to healing and creating change. I utilize an eclectic approach; this means that will use more than one specific technique or theory to help my clients create change. I can use talk therapy as well as more interactive approaches such as play therapy with children. I may also use a Cognitive Behavioral Approach (CBT) which focuses on the connections between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. These connections affect our decisions, problem solving, current moods and with making changes in our lives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE AS A MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL

I graduated from The University of Colorado at Denver with a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and an additional emphasis in School Counseling. Since that time I have gained 5 years of clinical experience; 3 years post licensure, as a therapist in a community mental health agency. I am licensed by both the State of Colorado as a Professional Counselor (LPC) and the Colorado Department of Education as a School Counselor. Over the course of the last 5 years, I have been involved in ongoing supervision and training in play therapy as well as my work with teens and adults.

Over the past 10 years I have worked in residential, day treatment, private and public school settings. This has included children in elementary, middle and high school. My experience includes providing individual and family therapy as well as group counseling and for adults, children and teens. I have experience providing group counseling in the areas of social skills for children and adults, academic success skills, adolescent girl’s empowerment, bully proofing, parenting groups. I also have experience working with clients of all ages who have experienced a traumatic event in their life and need support in their healing.
