At Embody Wellness Services, holistic and integrated health care prevails. Humans are comprised of many complex systems, with homeostasis a balance of systems. At times, disruptions and imbalances can occur and manifest as illness and disease in the body, mind or spirit. Attention may be needed in multiple systems to restore homeostasis and wellness.
Operating from a belief that optimal wellness occurs when human systems are in sync, owner and psychotherapist, Jennifer King, works with all clients as whole people vs. fragmented minds or bodies. The belief of non-pathology dominates work done with all clients. Non-pathology is the acknowledgement that there are likely many factors at play if life is not happening in the manner in which you desire. Some factors may be within a clients control, while others may not be. Science has told us that many mental illnesses and addictions do have roots in genetics and biochemistry, facts that we cannot and should not ignore. One would not ignore a family predisposition to diabetes. Factoring in all variables and risk factors from each individual’s unique background and composition is akin to forming a foundation under the problem. This foundation is crucial for effective and lasting change to occur – whether cognitive, emotional, or behavioral in nature.
What does this mean for mental health and substance abuse clients? All counseling services give attention to variables in pertinent system domains, to include: physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, spiritual, cultural and social aspects.
Treatment recommendations are based on findings in pertinent domains and may involve participating in psychotherapy to address thought patterns, emotional processing, skill deficits or addressing undesired behaviors. Recommendations may also include working with a nutritionist, integrated health provider or an MD. Practicing yoga, meditation, relaxation exercises, breath work or engaging in exercise are complementary to the therapy process and have been proven to improve mental well being. Jennifer will work as care coordinator and patient advocate to integrate all care efforts with other health professionals. Jennifer is available to attend physician appointments with clients to assist and advocate for clients getting the best medical care possible. Jennifer’s goal is to work towards balanced and complete well being for all clients.
Thanks!
